Davy Drake is the captain of The Deceit of the Sea. He roams the seas in search of lost souls to serve upon his vessel for all eternity. Drake was once a beloved sea captain known for his heroism during the Battle of the Lost Sea. At the conclusion of the fight, he fell in love with a beautiful sea goddess named Narissa. Narissa's beauty was so beholding that Drake traded his freedom for her love. Narissa sentenced him to The Deceit of the Sea to collect lost souls for her for eternity, in exchange, Narissa promised to see Davy Drake every ten years. Drake followed through with his promise, but after ten years Narissa failed to show her face.

Unable to deal with his sadness of Narissa's betrayal, Drake cut out his heart and placed it in a treasure chest and buried it on the Lost Island of Palms. The chest became known as "The Chest of Broken Souls." Drake, heartbroken and enraged, abandoned his duties set forth by Narissa and instead ruled the seas like a tyrant with an infamous crew bound by oath to serve for eternity.

Nearly all the crew members of The Deceit spent their time of servitude toiling the ship. There was only one way crew members could gain back their freedom and it involved mathematics. Davy Drake was a skilled mathematician and often challenged his crew to solve mathematical problems. Drake offered his crew members amnesty from The Deceit if any of the crew could solve either of the following tasks.
