The second product that Mr. Bako is anxiously awaiting to introduce to the world is the K’DiDLHoPpErS.  K’DiDLHoPpErS are small soft candies and have long-lasting scrumptious flavors.  Mr. Bako is anticipating the K’DiDLHoPpErS to be the next big thing.  Mr. Bako is in quite the quandary.  He cannot decide if he wants to package his newest invention in cylindrical tubes or rectangular boxes. Mr. Bako wants the K’DiDLHoPpErS packaged in a container with a volume of approximately 100 cubic centimeters.  Recent reports have indicated that the projected sales for K’DiDLHoPpErs will be much higher if the candy is packed in cylinders. Therefore he can not decide which direction to go, so he needs your help!

  • List at least 10 different rectangular prisms with dimensions that will produce a volume of 100 cubic centimeters.  Be sure to calculate the surface area of each rectangular prism.  A table is provided within your student companion to help organize your findings.

  • Based on your calculations, which rectangular prism should be used to package the K'DiDLHoPpErs? Why?

  • On centimeter grid paper, make a net for the selected box that will hold 100 cubic centimeters of K’DiDLHoPpErS. Cut out your net, fold and tape your pattern to form a rectangular box.

  • List at least 5 different cylinders with dimensions that will approximately produce a volume of 100 cubic centimeters.  Be sure to calculate the surface area of each cylinder.  A table is provided within your student companion to help organize your findings.
